- Stock Removed for Time in Grinder
Grinding is done on the outer 11" of the vertically opposed grinding rings which produces the most surface feet for time in the grinder. Installation of the Moyer Tandem 36" Grinder reduced a two pass operation on another type of tandem 36" grinder to a one pass, with improved quality.
- Microprocessor Controls
Menu driven program adjusts the grinding heads during production, automatically opens heads to correct position for dressing, and repositions heads for correct grinding height after dressing.
- Canting of Grinding Heads
Grinding heads are mounted on graduated wobble washers for fast and accurate single plane head settings. Customers report a 50% time savings and the elimination of a maintenance man's time when using this system.
- Elimination of Overhung Grinding Head Spindles
Four direct drive vertically opposed spindles are mounted on precision machined plates, which are aligned by linear ball bushings and which move up and down on 4" round hardened columns located 120 degrees apart. The precision motor plates are raised and lowered by lead screws functioning through AMPCO bronze nuts. This triangular mounting arrangement provides the necessary rigidity.
- Rigid Dresser System
The 4 x 3 in. dresser arms are mounted to two of the main hardened columns and have a maximum of .0002 in. clearance between the bronze bushing and the shaft. This design keeps the cutters a short distance from their pivot point which provides a sturdy dresser and ensures a flat disc face without adjusting the heads or the dresser.
- Massive Spring Carrier Plate Drive System
The 64.25 in. spring carrier plate is driven by by a 1.5 HP adjustable speed drive thru a 1500 to 1 reduction cone drive weighing 684 lbs. The sturdiness and precision of this drive holds the ends of the springs perpendicular to the grinding rings to ensure squareness.
The machine is double guarded over all the wheel area. Swing away guarding provides easy access for dressing and changing wheels. The ample wrap-around exhaust port measuring 15 5/8" x 6 1/4" is located to provide the maximum amount of dust removal and cooling during grinding.

An IBM-compatible microprocessor controlling four 200 Watt drivers, and stepper motors with user friendly color display provide easy grinding height control. Four-button menu-driven software makes this system easy to use. The microprocessor controls are housed in a NEMA 12 enclosure.
Each of the four grinding heads has a reversible 20 HP spindle motor with labyrinth seals and face to face angular contact bearings. A reversible, adjustable speed 1.5 HP motor drives the carrier plate at a maximum speed of 1.2 RPM and is equipped with a jam control.Meters are provided to monitor the load on each spindle motor. LED digital readout indicates the carrier speed. The electrical controls are housed in a NEMA 12 enclosure. The transformer and all of the motors are individually fused. A 115 Volt control transformer provides accessory and magnetic starter power. The main disconnect is rated at 400 Amp capacity. The grinder has a swing away remote pushbutton operator station. The machine may be wired for 230 or 460 Volts; other voltages may be ordered.
A one-year warranty is offered on the Moyer Tandem 36.
