To meet JIT requirements and smaller quantity production runs, the Moyer automatic loading design specifications include:

These design goals were met using an adjustable V-track and electronic escapement.

In the photo above you see a 24" stainless steel vibratory bowl having an integral air detangler and a mechanical detangler with a hopper feed. The two line discharge feeds springs into two adjustable V-tracks capable of handling an OD range of 1/4" to 1". The bowl includes internal adjustable tracks to feed OD ranges of 1/8" to 3/8", 1/4" to 5/8". Springs are escaped into funnels on demand from electronic signals. Springs drop into nozzles aligned to feed them into the carrier plate onto a Moyer 18" Grinder.

This automation system is just one of the several types designed and built by Moyer. We have made systems to transfer springs directly from coilers to grinders and from grinders to set removing stations and 100% load testers. Springs can be transferred by mechanical means and by air. The system used is based upon the particular needs of the customer and the configuration of the parts.

Stand: Steel construction 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 3/16" tube with 1" thick bowl mounting plate - size of stand dependent upon bowl size

V-Track: Steel construction of V-track and of necessary adjustment arms - V-track and adjustment arms plated with electrolysis nickel, then hardened

Escapement: Air actuated toggle to hold one and drop one

Timer: Solid state adjustable time delay with proximity switches

Timer Options: Misfeed light and horn

Nozzles: Steel plated and hardened with electrolysis nickel plating

Funnels: Nylon

Air: Regulator, filter and trap - 75 PSI required to operate regulator. Air manifold with needle valves for adjusting air to escapement, air detangler and air assist in bowl and on V-track

Indexing Mechanism: Depending upon the type of machine being fed, the system for holding and following the holes in the feed plate is different. When feeding Moyer grinders, the mechanism is comprised of a pivoting arm which holds the nozzles. The arm is driven by the spring carrier plate so the nozzles follow the holes in the spring carrier plate. A cam follower, index pin, cam lift and cam return ratchet the pivoting arm. The steel indexing mechanism is plated with electrolysis nickel and hardened.
